Cool to be kind

From contests, quizzes to fashion displays… There is a lot happening at Kaizen – the kindness festival being organised by the IIT-Delhi chapter of the National Service Scheme (NSS) until April 2.

The gathering of sociocultural enthusiasts at the IIT-Delhi campus brings a wide gamut of information and insights to the table.

While workshops and panel discussions leave the audience with a lot of insight, there are several exciting competitions that are entirely student-driven.

The NSS members work throughout the year on various projects spanning various sectors, including education and health.

This year, the reach has been expanded to include an array of interests, with workshops covering topics such as gender sensitisation and inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as guest lectures and panel discussions with renowned figures like politician Jayant Sinha and author Mihir Vatsa.

The flagship event, called Social Convention, aims to bridge the gap between youth innovators and investors, while Social Samadhaan and Ingenious Geeks cater to the scientific-minded, with a case study competition and science exhibition for young students.

Spardha, a parody-making competition, promises to be a laugh riot, while Social Sawaal is a wide-scale quizzing event that offers cash prizes to the winners.

Then there is Rangreza, an event that focuses on sustainability in the textiles industry. It will showcase flamboyant creations of individual interpretations of fashion.

On the other hand, Influencers United will bring together social influencers to share their experiences and inspire the viewers.

The event is being held in partnership with Bhumi Foundation, which involves over 30,000 volunteers working in more than 10 cities across India on issues like education, environment and community welfare, and Good Deeds Day.

“Bhumi has collaborated with IIT Delhi’s social fest, that witnesses over 10,000 people from 200 universities and colleges coming together for good causes and great times, with a mission of ‘Making volunteering a national habit’,” Akshay Jain, national coordinator, Bhumi, said.

The 3-day gala also includes several activity-based events, including making seed balls, crafting unique dog collars and participating in the heart-warming Sewa Sandwich initiative.

The venue will also wear a festive look, with stalls of food, handicrafts and other products set up by self-help groups from all over the country.
